At Herndon Consulting, LLC, Ms. Devon Herndon is dedicated to helping you be your highest self.  I share my commitment to the well-being of children, adolescents and adults in my services as a therapist or consultant.  I use a variety of proven methods and strategies in my counseling and consulting to help my clients get un-stuck and regain a positive sense of purpose in life.  I have been described as a dynamic, positive, caring and competent professional.  I believe that I play a supportive role in the client relationship, assisting an individual to co-create a plan for living that resonates deeply with each client. For my Web site, I chose the image of a lotus flower because of the Buddhist value: Like a lotus flower that grows out of the mud and blossoms above the muddy water surface, we can rise above our defilements and sufferings of life. With over 18 years of combined experience in counseling, the classroom, and the corporate sector, I have worked successfully with diverse populations across the United States and abroad.  My education as an undergraduate included a BS in Agriculture.  My post graduate educational qualifications include an MS in Mental Health Counseling.  I am a member of the AMHCA (American Mental Health Counselors Association).

My therapeutic services cover anyone looking for guidance in life.  Therapy sessions can be on a one-time or ongoing basis. One area of specialty is “everything adolescent”.  I focus on issues such as self-esteem; assertiveness; relationships with teachers, parents, and peers; PTSD/trauma; family-of-origin issues; and recovery from all types of addictions and relationship co-dependence.  My methods and strategies are eclectic, including talk therapy; visioning; meditation; EMDR; drumming and relaxation techniques.

As a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Early Adolescent Science, I also provide high energy and expert consultation for the elementary classroom in the sciences.  As a teacher or consultant, I provide a client with a custom designed lesson plan and hands-on laboratory experience for students.  As a New Mexico state certified education teacher in math and science, I can provide tutoring to individuals and small groups.  A consultation can include travel to a specific location in Albuquerque and the surrounding areas to provide the lesson, or an interaction by phone or Skype.  Since I enjoy having fun with science and with children, I have also created exciting, educational, and entertaining science lab birthday parties for them as well.  I am committed to working with children in a wide range of abilities to foster an appreciation and understanding of both science and math.
